Which Convex Mirror?

Which style of Convex Mirror do I need?

Wall Convex Mirror:
Typically when you are trying to view and pinpoint a particular area, you would use a convex mirror. Since the lens of a convex mirror is curved less than that of a dome style mirror, the image in the convex mirror would be larger and less distorted. All of the fully adjustable installation hardware comes complete with the convex mirrors. Convex mirrors are available in both indoor and outdoor models. Convex mirrors allow 160 degrees of vision.

Convex Dome Mirror:
For wider angle viewing, dome mirrors are available in 360, 180, and 90 degree models. The dome mirror lens is curved more than the convex mirror lens, allowing a wider angle of vision.

For overhead viewing and vision at a 4-way intersection or hallway, you would choose the 360 degree full dome mirror. This mirror allows vision from virtually every angle.

At a "T" shaped intersection or hallway, the 180 degree half dome mirror would be used. This mirror allows for 3 way vision

For small offices and "L" shaped hallways the 90 degree quarter dome would be used.

What size Security Mirror do I need?

The larger the mirror size, the larger the image in the mirror will be. If you are viewing a particular area with a 30cm mirror, it will be a much larger image with a 90cm mirror. Rule of thumb, for every metre you need to view, you would choose about 10cm of mirror. So if you have to view back 5 metres, you most likely would choose a 50cm diameter mirror.

What is the difference between an Indoor Mirror and an Outdoor Mirror?

All of our acrylic convex, dome and flat mirrors can be used for indoor use. When being used outdoors, choose our Exterior convex mirrors to withstand the elements year round. Each convex mirror is mounted on a weatherproof backing with a sealed rubber molding around the outside edge. Dome mirrors are for indoor use only.

How do I fix My Mirror?

Each mirror comes complete with the necessary fixings for installation.

Convex Mirrors:
Convex mirrors are mounted on a backing with an adjustable wall bracket assembly attached to the back. This enables you to adjust the mirror up/down, left/right. Fixings for hanging each convex mirror comes complete. The fasteners to attach your mirror to the wall or ceiling are not included. Post fixings are an optional extra unless stated.

Dome Mirrors:
360 degree dome mirrors come with a 3 piece chain kit for ceiling mount. There are 3 holes drilled in the flange of the mirror so you can slip the "S" hooks, which are provided, through the holes in the flange. The chains would attach to the "S" hooks and be joined together at the top with a common "S" hook.

The 360 degree dome mirrors can also be screwed directly to a ceiling or wall with the proper fasteners (not included) for flush mounting.

Both the 180 degree and 90 degree dome mirrors come with screws to attach the mirror to the ceiling.

Recommended mounting height in most cases is 2.5 to 3 metres.

How Clear And Durable Is An Acrylic Mirror?

Acrylic mirrors are approximately 20% brighter than glass mirrors allowing for optimum optical clarity. Acrylic mirrors are shatter resistant, safer, and can withstand a much higher impact than glass. For cleaning and care of acrylic mirrors see our Security Mirror Installation and Maintenance page.

How Quickly Can I Expect My Mirror After Placing An Order?

Most orders placed before noon are despatched the same day. Delivery usually takes 1 to 2 business days.

How to clean and care for your convex acrylic mirror:

Acrylic is a soft material and if not handled properly can scratch.

Cleaning: For cleaning your acrylic mirror, use a mild detergent or soap using a clean, dry, soft dry cloth.

To avoid leaving scratches on the acrylic, it is recommended not to aggressively wipe the mirror, or to clean too often.

Polishing: Apply a thin coat of spray wax to the acrylic mirror lens. With a dry, soft cloth gently wipe the mirror clean. The wax will help polish the acrylic mirror and fill in small scratches.

Tar, Paint or Grease removal : Using a soft cloth, apply a light amount of turpentine substitute. To avoid leaving scratches, it is recommended not to aggressively wipe the mirror.

Never use: Glass cleaners, petrol, acetone or household cleaners on our acrylic security mirrors.
